Keisuke Yamamoto was born in Osaka, Japan in 1961 and currently lives and works in Kyoto. He received his MFA from the Kanazawa College of Art and Design in 1986 with a major in oil painting. Although he continues to paint, Yamamoto is best known for his lithographs, especially the Light, Time, Silence series which he began in 1992. Frequently blending still life and landscape, Yamamoto often captures trees, chairs, and spaces that cross from interior to exterior. He removes as much as possible from the image to draw the viewer’s attention to the themes under investigation: light, time, and silence. His work is held in high regard as a rare mix of masterful technique, philosophical curiosity, and emotional gravity. The images capture an incredible stillness that imply the people and location without showing them, captivating the viewer who imagines all of the possibilities, all that is not shown.
